Map showing location of SRS

We're not far from beaches or  mountains... our climate  permits year-round sports and  other recreational events

 Our missions: present and future

SRS is an enduring site within the Department of Energy enterprise with a long,  secure future

The sole destination for aluminum-clad spent nuclear fuel from domestic research reactors in the United States and around the world.
The only source for new tritium gas for the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile, including a new $506 million tritium production facility.
The corporate laboratory for the Department of Energy's Environmental Management work, which includes nuclear material disposition, waste management, and environmental cleanup.
The location where surplus plutonium from multiple Department of Energy sites are being consolidated. These materials will be disposed of in new and existing SRS facilities.
The hallmark for environmental cleanup and remediation technologies.

 Facts about SRS:
  • Covers over 300 square miles of U.S. Government property
  • Employs more than 6,000 workers
  • Uses 125 miles of electrical transmission lines, 63 miles of rail track and 129 miles of paved roads
  • In the past 15 years, the National Nuclear Security Administration has invested more than $1 billion in SRS Defense Programs modernization and technology
  • SRS has been selected for the Enriched Uranium Disposition Project
  • In 2006, the Department of Energy designated the Savannah River National Laboratory as the Corporate Laboratory for the Office of Environmental Management, acknowledging the lab as a key technical leader for Environmental Management and its programs around the country.

SRS is managed and operated for the U.S. Department of Energy by Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC.
