SRNS employees have a rich tradition of providing support, including philanthropic donations, as well as donations of time and talent to assist community members in the seven-county area surrounding SRS. Since SRNS assumed M&O responsibilities at SRS on August 1, 2008, $1,483,843 has been invested in the surrounding communities from SRNS corporate giving. Some notable contributions include:

United WayUnited Way
In 2009, and again in 2010, SRS employees donated a grand total of $2 million during their annual Employee United Way Campaign. Twelve local agencies are designated to receive employee contributions, including the United Way agencies of Colleton County, Screven County, McDuffie County, Hampton County, Allendale County, Edisto, Midlands, Bamberg County, Edgefield County, Barnwell County, CSRA and Aiken County. SRNS also contributed a $200,000 corporate gift to the United Way in an employee match program in 2009 and 2010. For over 50 years, SRS employees have supported a tradition of caring for the less fortunate and providing a better future for our communities through the support of the SRS Employee United Way Campaign. In the Site’s history, contractor employees have donated more than $50 million to the United Way.

Toys for TotsToys for Tots
SRS employees donated an estimated 12,115 toys and $16,000 during the Site’s 19th Annual Toys for Tots Drive, which is the largest area toy contribution. SRNS made an additional corporate contribution of over $3,400.

Golden Harvest Food Bank
In 2010, SRS raised $14,400, along with about 1,000 pounds of food, during its annual, four-week food drive for the Golden Harvest Food BankGolden Harvest Food Bank. SRNS made an additional $15,000 corporate contribution.
United WayProject VISION, Project CARE and Project SERVE
Approximately 300 SRS employees participated in completing projects for Project VISION, Project CARE and Project SERVE of the United Way organizations in 2010. Project VISION is a one-day volunteer initiative to address specific housing needs of citizens in Aiken County. Project SERVE is a similar effort that focuses on Augusta and the CSRA; and Project Care focuses on the Barnwell, S.C. area.
SRS Mobile Mammography
The SRS Mobile Mammography program, a partnership withSRS Mobile Mammography University Health Care System, screened approximately 254 female employees, with no diagnoses of breast cancer, in 2009. SRNS is also a $2,500 corporate sponsor of University Health Care System’s Annual Miracle Mile Walk.
CSRA Start! Heart WalkCSRA Start! Heart Walk
SRS surpassed their CSRA Start! Heart Walk fund goal of $90,000 by collecting a total of $104,000, which is 115 percent of goal. Additionally, SRNS presented a $25,000 corporate check to the American Heart Association.
American Red CrossSRS Blood Drives
SRS Blood Drives in 2009 exceeded 4,650 units of blood. Never before have so many SRS personnel donated that much blood. SRNS is also a corporate supporter of the Aiken and Augusta chapters of the American Red Cross.
Citizens for Nuclear Technology AwarenessCitizens for Nuclear Technology Awareness
SRNS presented a $40,000 check to Citizens for Nuclear Technology Awareness in support of its ongoing mission to provide education programs that provide factual information about the benefits and risks of nuclear technologies and SRS.
Habitat for Humanity
SRNS shouldered all the costs and provided the manpower for construction of Habitat for Humanity's first home in Jackson, S.C. for a deserving Habitat homeowner family. SRNS donated Habitat for Humanity$50,000 for this undertaking. SRNS also donated $6,417 to the North Augusta Habitat for Humanity to help replace stolen equipment.
South Carolina State University
During a recent commencement ceremony, South Carolina State University President Dr. George Cooper announced that the Board formally accepted two donations totaling $180,000 from the Fluor Corporation and Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, South Carolina State Universityfor the first corporate naming rights opportunity in the University’s history in connection with the planned construction of its new engineering and computer science building this fall.
SRNS Innovative Teaching Mini Grants Program2009 SRNS Innovative Teaching Mini Grants Program
The 2009 SRNS Innovative Teaching Mini Grants Program awarded a total of $50,000 to elementary and middle public school educators in the seven-county Central Savannah River Area (Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, and Edgefield counties in South Carolina, and Columbia and Richmond counties in Georgia.) The total contribution for SRNS education-related philanthropic giving in 2009 was $256,000.
Local Universities and CollegesLocal Universities and Colleges
In 2009 SRNS also donated major contributions to localuniversities and colleges, includingAikenTechnical College ($50K), Paine College ($2,500), Augusta State University ($10K), and the University of South Carolina Aiken ($50K).
SRNS Leadership RolesLeadership Roles
SRNS senior executives and managers serve in leadership roles and on board of directors for over forty community, civic and non-profit organizations in the CSRA.
